IPhone comes to India for over 20,000/-
It’ll be here by the end of 2008 (a very optimistic date is September 2008)
Last month Apple announced that IPhone will be officially launched in India soon. I am eager to grab one as soon as it comes to stores here.
The “where to buy” page on Apple site confirms that in India it’ll be available through Vodafone & Airtel. These carriers have already started taking pre-launch bookings for the IPhone.
If you would like to use your IPhone with Vodofone (earlier Hutch) you can pre-register for the IPhone on their site or SMS “IPHONE” to 56789 . Airtel users may make a booking here.
A couple of days earlier TOI reported that the 8GB version of IPhone would cost around 21,000/- compared to the $199 price tag in US. The reason for the huge difference in price is because the carriers here (Airtel & Vodafone) are already providing very subsidized call rates as against AT&T(in US) which covers some cost of the handset from the calls and monthly phone bills.
Btw, its 3G wont be available in India to start with but the App store(launched today with the IPhone 3G) should be available.
