Kapil, This is a very good idea, provided that the challenges have to be solved and the solution should be genuine.
I agree with Sujith & Khushboo for idea of background check. But also, there is a risk. Background check can be done only from one side i.e. the person who is providing the lift. What about the the person who is taking the lift? That also we need to secure as this idea should also include the woman who is ready to provide the lift to man. Please add more ideas to solve it. One thing, apart from the sticker the person should also have the register to include the record of the persons taking the lift from him.

I agree with Sujith. Also I think, if you are thinking of it as an initiative that you would like to spend time building, there could be ways of letting that trust grow, and keep it in check also. For instance, you could have levels of "helpers"... meaning the level to which they can be trusted. Begin with men giving lifts to men (safest). Then once they have done that for say 3months, without any complaints (maybe u can set standards..), they can be promoted to "trust level2", meaning this person can now be trusted enough to give lifts to women... etc etc.
This way the person taking the lift, is aware of his/her risk, n is responsible 4 thr own decision...
All this depends on how much time n efforts you are willing to put in, to make this work. :)

Thanks :-)
I like the background-check concept. I did not think of it before.

Good idea :-) This has to be a movement of sorts. Another challenge that is already there in the car pool concept is "trust". How do we know the person offering the lift is a genuine one, or worse, the person asking for a lift does not have a malicious intent. The solution is, only those candidates will be provided the sticker who have got his/her background check done. There are agencies happily providing this service.

Good interesting post Kapil.
It would be a good step forward for a green environment, if a solution for the challenges are found.
Nice blog.

Everything seems to be fine except for the concern for security from both the sides. And also the gender bais would popup. As in, no lady would agree to this idea. So this would be limited to males only. And it would be foolish to assume that female help seekers may not have some nasty thoughts in their land which may land the good intention helper in some unpredictable, deep mess.
Overall, not a good idea. Let it go the way it is going.
